This is such a breath of fresh air. I hoped a digital crate dig of this platform would eventually yield some likeminded, similarly driven content to sink my teeth into... feels like I hit the motherlode!
Since I started my publication in July of last year, I've been wondering where all the Substack drummers were. I perpetually asked myself whether my decision to write about music from a percussive perspective was too niche; the literary equivalent to being smashed into the back corner of a dimly lit stage; keeping time (or, simply killing it), as it were... fodder for a litany of bad jokes.
I sometimes wonder about songwriting being affected in some way by the space musicians are in as well.
If you’ve got the ‘world’s ear,’ playing larger places, you might be more apt to write more universally... embrace the size of your reach, as opposed the ‘indie’ world, where the audience is smaller but maybe more engaged. That might bring out smaller scale, more personal stuff.
Of course maybe it’s a bit of a chicken and egg thing.

Happy to have found you here.
Thank you so much!
Love this, and thank you.
