There are some interesting crypto-driven solutions emerging to address the same; I get the skepticism on NFTs as they exist today, but if we think of them as smart digital objects rather than just digital objects, the conversation gets more interesting. This project (https://stoi.org/about) is experimenting with the same removal of intermediaries you're pointing at in some of the proposed solutions above. Worth a look.
What I’m not seeing in any of these crypto ideas is acknowledgment of the power dynamic between capital and labor - making us all mini-capitalists through “ownership” isn’t honoring the value of labor any more than Spotify. Couldn’t we all just buy shares in that, too?
Sure we could, but cutting out intermediaries leaves more of the value with the artists and communities. A version of Spotify that actually rewards creators for their creations would be better than what we have today - not perfect, but less extractive.
Honestly, the amount of money in crypto/web3 tech right now is a bad thing for development in the space; tons of ppl just setting $ on fire because they can, building solutions without problems.
