I don't disagree with your paid strategy, but by the way, mine is like the exact opposite. Anything I write that recommends other artists is free, whereas my original content is paywalled.
Just finding the comparison humorous! Otherwise there's no meaning behind it, particularly because I expend zero effort trying to get paid subscribers and have the nearly zero paid subscribers to show for it.
Thanks for nudge. Genuinely love the newsletter. Subs paid. Happy Christmas and thanks for publishing. I genuinely value and appreciate your thoughtful and interesting words.
Do however you need to do, it’s fine. But did you conspire with Irwin Chusid to play an Annette Peacock track on WFMU today just to get us all extra hyped and curious?
I'm just a little confused -- I've been a paid ($5/mo.) reader since pretty much the beginning of this Substack, and do greatly appreciate your music recommendations/writings. "Platinum" sounds ultra-pricey to me, and I don't yet see "Platinum" listed on your subscription levels, so I'm wondering if my ongoing $5/mo. will grandfather me into that level, or -- what? Thanks!
Thank you so much for subscribing - “platinum” is just a cheeky term for paid subs, all subscribers at any amount get the same access to paywalled content. My standard monthly rate went up to $6 some time ago, not sure if Substack grandfathered in existing $5 members or if maybe you’ve been paying $1 more without knowing? Apologies if so - but all appreciated, as I said…
Okay, cool, thank you for clarifying! -- I kinda guessed you were being cheeky with the "Platinum" thing, but you never know :)
It looks like Substack did grandfather me in at the $5 level, at least that's what it tells me I am paying, even though it's only now listing $6 as the lowest paid level. It's easily worth at least that much to me. Cheers!

Anyway thank you for your writing regardless.

Ha - WFMU is the best
