This is, actually, why I feel most artists and almost all comms and media are ill-prepared and incapable of standing up to the administration, because the US embraced kitsch as it's dominant mode of entertainment and communications at least as far back as the 1980s, with particularly acute attacks on earnestness in the form of sarcasm and pop nihilism.
